Bible-based Spelling Curriculum - 1st Grade

Image
Ever since I started teaching in a Christian school, I have tried to incorporate God and biblical themes into as many areas of the curriculum as possible. God is intricately involved in all aspects of our lives, and I want my students to see that He is involved in every subject area, not just Bible class.  How could I incorporate the Bible into the spelling/language arts part of the curriculum? I started to add some challenge spelling words that were found in our weekly memory verse. Words like faith, salvation, righteousness, depending on the level of the child. But this break allowed me time to go a step further. I had an idea to create an entire spelling curriculum that pulled spelling words directly from Scripture. Now, two weeks later, here we are. I am so excited to share this resource! My goal is to continue working on additional grade levels, but for now, first grade is ready.  "Spelling Through the Scriptures" contains 36 weeks of spelling work. Each list comes with ...

Dear Teacher

Image
God sees you. He sees the challenges you face every day. He sees your failures and your victories, your tears, and your smiles. God sees every faithful effort you put into doing your best. He sees it all.  Your role as a Christian teacher is one of the most challenging, unique, unpredictable, worthwhile experiences that exists. Your work is a long-term investment. Don't give up. Yes, there will be days when you are tempted to do so. Choose to press forward under the strength and help of God as your mighty counselor, helper, and sustainer. Let the students you teach see that life with Jesus is no failure.

Victory Over Sin Bible Study Booklet

Image
Though most children will not ask direct questions about victory, the questions are there. When discouraged and unsatisfied with their mistakes and faults, we hear it in their words, see it in their countenances, and certainly identify with their feelings.  The good news for adults and children alike is this: victory is possible. This is a central theme throughout the Bible. God is able to give us more than just forgiveness. He is able to keep us from falling back into our sin. When we ask God to help us to be victorious, He makes Himself available to help us. "Every mistake, every fault, every difficulty, conquered, becomes a steppingstone to better and higher things." Let us teach the children that they can conquer with Jesus.  This is the first "Kids with Questions" Bible study booklet. It is on the topic of victory over sin. The following five victory notes are presented and examined: 1. Read the Bible 2. Pray without ceasing 3. Hide God's Word in our hearts...

Lines, Rays, and Line Segments: Spiritual Lessons Poem

Image
I love to teach math. The order and the constancy of numbers help me to see that God is a God of order.  I like to teach math even more when I am able to bring in spiritual lessons that help to reinforce the math lesson and a spiritual truth at the same time.  This is a poem I wrote about lines, line segments, and rays and the spiritual lessons they each provide.

God's Promises for Me

Image
"Miss Lorina, I didn't know that there was so much in one verse!" We were in the middle of Bible class, and we were "unpacking God's unchanging Word". The activities we were doing would eventually become called "Bible Promises for Me", but on that day, in that class, my fourth-grader saw a glimpse of the depth of God's promises and it filled me with joy. When one child begins to see the beauty, wonder, and faithfulness of God's promises, what a gift. And at that, a life-long gift that keeps on giving.  The Bible's numerous promises are not all the same. Some are conditional and others are unconditional. Some even come in the form of warnings. But each one is for us and for the children in our lives.  What if God used you to guide the faith of a child to take hold of God's promised possibilities for their lives? Promises that are for them individually? Promises for the various situations that life will bring them through? Join me in ...

Welcome to My Blog!

Hello, and welcome to my blog! My name is Lorina. Teaching children about the truth and treasure of God's Word, the Bible, is one of my greatest passions. I've spent many years in a Christian classroom with freedom to teach every subject area using the Bible as my textbook. Rather than keep my Bible resource creations for myself and my students only, my goal is for this blog to house resources to benefit and brighten the lives of you and the children in your life.  Join me as I aim to share resources, experiences, and lessons aimed towards excellence in Bible teaching.
